German American Partnership Program

This fall MN hosted a group of ninth and tenth grade students from the Kaiserpfalz Realschule in Ingelheim, Germany, a small town along the Rhine. Next summer MN students will be traveling to Ingelheim.  Students stay with host families, attend classes, and take trips to local places of interest.

 

Sponsor a German Student for 2 weeks this fall!

Marple Newtown High School is participating in a student exchange program with the German American Partnership Program (GAPP), in collaboration with the German Language School Conference (website: www.Germanschools.org).  The GAPP program is sponsored by the Goethe Institut, the Foreign Ministry of Germany, and the U.S. Department of State.  This summer four MN students are traveling to Germany for a two-week homestay and a week of sightseeing.  They will visit Ingelheim, a town near Mainz along the Rhine, and will attend the Kaiserpfalz Realschule, a secondary school with grades 5 – 10. 

     MN has invited 15 students from this school to visit us this fall.  From October 11, to November 1, students will live with American host families, attend MNHS, and will take day trips planned by their chaperones.  Last fall we hosted a group of students from this school, and the visit was a huge success, not only for the students, but also for their host families.  Many of the hosts made long-lasting friendships with the German students, and keep in touch on a regular basis.

     We are looking for families who would like to host our guests this fall.  There are very few requirements for the host families:

• The host family must be willing to include the guest in family activities, meals and outings.
• The host family must provide a bed, but not necessarily a private room, for the  guest.
• The family does not need fluency in German!

     The host families will be invited to a reception for our guests shortly after their arrival, as well as a farewell party before their departure.
