End of Year Message from Dr. Cary

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Thank you for your contribution to another great year at Marple Newtown School District. We have accomplished many goals and achieved strong results in academics, visual and performing arts, and in athletics.  As our fifth graders graduate to the middle school, and the eighth graders graduate to the high school, we congratulate all of them on their success.

Our senior high school graduates are on their way to college, military or career. Ninety-three percent of the graduates will go on to post-secondary education and were awarded $14,380,000 in scholarships and awards. We are very proud of our Class of 2017!

Summer approaches and I wish you all the best for a safe, healthy, family-filled, and fun-filled summer. I will look forward to welcoming you back on our first day of school, September 5, 2017.

Until then,

Best regards,

Carol A. Cary, Ed.D.

New PA Immunization Regulations as of August 1, 2017

Parents will have a much shorter time to provide proof of immunization due to these new regulations.  Previously, families had 8 months to provide proof of immunization to the school.  The regulations require most proof of immunization to be provided on or before the first day of school or risk their child’s exclusion from school.  The goal is to ensure that children in school are adequately protected from preventable diseases.

Children in ALL grades (K-12) need the following immunizations for attendance:

  • 4 doses of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis
  • 4 doses of polio (4th dose on or after 4th birthday AND at least 6 months after previous dose
  • 2 doses of measles, mumps, rubella
  • 3 doses of hepatitis B
  • 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity

7th grade ADDITIONAL requirements:

  • 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap)
  • 1 dose meningococcal vaccine (MCV)

12th grade ADDITIONAL requirements:

  • 2nd dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)  If the first dose was given at 16 years of age or older, only one dose is required.

Exemptions to school law for immunizations:

  • Medical reasons
  • Religious beliefs
  • Philosophical/strong moral or ethical conviction

If a child is exempt, he or she may be removed from school during an outbreak/health emergency

Additional information regarding immunization requirements may be found by visiting the PA Department of Health website at www.health.pa.gov.
