SPP Scores Released Today

Dear Parents/Guardians/Community Stakeholders,

Today, October 13, 2016, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) released the 2016 School Performance Profiles (SPP). With the exception of our high school, our schools did not have an SPP score last year.

This year, 2016, reflects the first SPP scores of students using the rigorous PA Core Standards. The SPP uses a formula that is heavily dependent on standardized test scores. Pennsylvania aligned its standardized testing system to the more rigorous PA Core Standards and while the performance is still in transition, it is trending in the right direction.

Our schools remain strong in academic achievement and by next year we expect the achievement to be more fully apparent when tied to the SPP score. SPP scores can be viewed by visiting http://paschoolperformance.org/. Please contact your child’s principal if you wish further information about the SPP.

Thank you,
Dr. Cary

Important Message From Dr. Cary

To the Parents/Guardians of Marple Newtown School District Students

Our district administrators became aware of an alleged “creepy clown” incident that may have taken place during the football game on Friday, October 7th. The Newtown Township police who were on site for the game were made aware of the concern at that time. We have no knowledge about the identity of any alleged perpetrator. If you have any information about this alleged incident, please immediately report it to the Newtown Township Police Department.

Because the safety and security of our school community are of paramount concern, we ask that our parents and guardians partner with us in assuring that our students clearly understand that our District does not tolerate incidents of this kind.  They are not funny pranks. Instead, they can terrorize our children and expose the perpetrators themselves to the risk of serious harm.  Our District will hold any student perpetrator within our jurisdiction properly accountable in accordance with this serious level of infraction.

MNHS Youth Night - Marple Newtown Football vs. Ridley High School, October 7, 2016

Dear Tiger Community: As we prepare for our annual Youth Night football game on October 7th, we are making a slight adjustment to our protocols for security purposes. Spectators will not be allowed to bring large bags into the stadium, a practice that is currently in place at most venues across the country.  This includes, but is not limited to, book bags, drawstring bags, or oversized handbags.  Small purses or handbags are permissible.

We would like to thank you in advance as we take the safety and security of our students, staff, and community very seriously.

New PA Immunization Regulations as of August 1, 2017

Parents will have a much shorter time to provide proof of immunization due to these new regulations.  Previously, families had 8 months to provide proof of immunization to the school.  The regulations require most proof of immunization to be provided on or before the first day of school or risk their child’s exclusion from school.  The goal is to ensure that children in school are adequately protected from preventable diseases.

Children in ALL grades (K-12) need the following immunizations for attendance:

  • 4 doses of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis
  • 4 doses of polio (4th dose on or after 4th birthday AND at least 6 months after previous dose
  • 2 doses of measles, mumps, rubella
  • 3 doses of hepatitis B
  • 2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity

7th grade ADDITIONAL requirements:

  • 1 dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap)
  • 1 dose meningococcal vaccine (MCV)

12th grade ADDITIONAL requirements:

  • 2nd dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV)  If the first dose was given at 16 years of age or older, only one dose is required.

Exemptions to school law for immunizations:

  • Medical reasons
  • Religious beliefs
  • Philosophical/strong moral or ethical conviction

If a child is exempt, he or she may be removed from school during an outbreak/health emergency

Additional information regarding immunization requirements may be found by visiting the PA Department of Health website at www.health.pa.gov.

Superintendent’s Welcome Back Message to Students and Parents

Dear Students and Parents,

As we begin School Year 2016-2017, we share our K-12 vision for a district united by its mascot, colors, vision, and community spirit. We mark this new school year by all schools using the tiger mascot and all schools using the district colors of orange and black (with white and grey as accent colors). While we know each school has its own culture and unique tradition, and we do not want to lose that, we also know that our students need to be part of a K-12 process that begins with students entering the district in kindergarten or first grade and staying with us through high school graduation...
