Wellness is a Way of Life!
Welcome to school year 2008-2009!
Applications for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) have been sent home, and are available here for download.. Please complete the enclosed forms and return them to school, no later than September 15, 2008. You may also mail it directly to the Marple-Newtown School District, Food Service Department, Suite 207, 38 Media Line Road, Newtown Square, Pa 19073.
The applications will be processed in the order we receive them. You will receive written notification of your child/children’s’ meal eligibility. A new application MUST be completed each year for each household. After September 15, if you have not completed a new application, it is your responsibility to ensure your child has 1) meal money or 2) a bagged meal from home.
Due to escalating food costs, fuel costs, and healthier menu items, it was necessary to increase our lunch prices. The price for the 2008-2009 School Year are as follows: elementary cost: $2.25; Paxon Hollow Middle School: $2.40 and Marple Newtown High School: $2.60. These prices include a hot or cold entrée, a grain, a fruit and a vegetable, and a cold milk choice. These meals provide not only a great value for the cost, but meet the nutritional standards set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Please support our school meal program!
USDA's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) administers the NSLP and reimburses participating schools' food service departments for all the meals served to students. To receive reimbursement, the schools must serve lunches that meet minimum nutritional guidelines. These nutritional guidelines include providing one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of protein, calcium, iron, and vitamins A and C. We are pleased to serve healthy meals to our students. Please review our menu with your child (ren) and talk about making healthy food choices.
Again, this year, Food Services will offer our “Celebrations” Party Package, which offers a variety of items for your child’s special celebration, whether a birthday, classroom party, or special treat. These items have been carefully selected and meet our district Wellness Policy. Order forms are available for download here or you may contact your Food Service Manager.
Finally, if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas regarding Food Services, please feel free to contact me at 610.359.4275 or via email at ebellew@mnsd.org.
Sincerely,
Eileen M. Bellew, MA, RD, LDN
