Dear Parent/Guardian,
Marple Newtown School District uses an exciting computerized Point of Sale (POS) System for collecting money for school meals. The PCS System allows you to place money into your child’s account so there is no need to worry about providing money daily or packing meals. The cashier will notify your child in the lunch line when his/her balance is low.
Each student will use his or her own Personal Identification Number (PIN), which is your child’s Student ID Number. When your child goes through the serving line, he or she must enter his/her PIN number onto a keypad at the cash register or, using his/her ID card, swipe the card past the scanner and his/her ID number will be entered for them. The cashier will debit the account for the meal and/or snacks. The PIN number or Student ID number will follow your child through high school. If students have money left in their accounts as of the last day in June, the balance will be carried over to the next grade for them to use in September.
When sending in prepayment money, please include the child’s name and grade on the envelope or check. You may send in any amount of money. This money will be deposited into your child’s personal account. Money will be deducted from your child’s account for meals and/or snacks as your child purchases them. If the money is to be divided between two or more students, please put this in writing and indicate the amount for each child. Please make checks payable to “Marple Newtown Food Service Department.”
This is not a “charge account” system. We do, however, understand if a child does forget his or her money. We will not let your child go hungry. We will charge the account for a meal on that day and you may remit payment the next day.
You will be notified prior to the end of the school year in the event that your child has a negative account balance. Payment in full will be due at that time to avoid the possibility of the final report card being withheld.
You may send payments upon receipt of this letter to any of our School Food Service Departments, (we prefer checks), so that we can enter them into your student(s) account. Children may still use cash if they prefer.
I hope that you and your child will enjoy the convenience, security, and speedy service of our computerized POS System. Upon request, we will provide you with a detailed record of the account activity. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at my office at 610.359.4275.
Sincerely,
Eileen M. Bellew, MA, RD, LDN
